There are no translations available.

Grupo Matarromera dedicates 7.2 million Euros to its integrated sustainability plan

EMINA_RIBERA_2

Grupo Matarromera is one of the exponents of the wine growing sector in general, and in its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. Its energy efficiency program and environmental respect are structured through the “Sustainable Matarromera on Plant Earth” project, a sustainable action plan that, last March 8, was awarded the European Environment Prize, Spanish section, granted by the Entorno Foundation and presented by the Prince of Asturias.

In fact, from the architectural conception of its seven bodegas to the use of natural resources to produce energy and generate a lower environmental impact, the program involves 20 environmental measures whose mission is to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere (currently 3,636 metric tons per year), be energy self-sufficient (maximum production 1.27 million KWh) and to procure an ecological agricultural area, already extended to 20% of its 490 hectares of vineyards, and 100% of its 82 hectares of olive plantations.

Among the activities found at the Emina Wine Interpretation Center (CIVE in Spanish), its central headquarters, is the first integrated sustainability center in the wine making world, and the first wine maker with Aenor certification of the calculation of its carbon footprint, to have an awareness of the real impact the production of three wines have on the environment. Specifically, each bottle of Emina Verdejo emits 829 grams of CO2 equivalent, 1.4kg from Emina 12 months and 1.1 kg from Matarromera Crianza. The next step is to establish procedures to reduce and compensate for emissions in future seasons.
